My approach to counselling

I work integratively, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches and adapt the work to you as an individual.

More importantly, I aim to offer a relationship that feels warm, respectful and genuine. I believe that feeling understood and able to speak openly is at the heart of effective counselling.

Martin Dewberry, BACP Accredited Counsellor, Brentford

Sessions last 60 minutes and are usually held weekly at my private, home-based practice in Brentford. I will listen closely to what you want to say—and to what may sometimes be difficult to put into words. We will work together in an open and conversational way to explore what is troubling you.

As our work develops, we may begin to recognise patterns, beliefs and ways of relating that no longer feel helpful. I will not advise you or tell you what to do; my role is to support you in understanding yourself more clearly, considering different possibilities and making choices that feel right for you.

Where it feels helpful, we may also use metaphors, images or symbolic ideas to explore experiences that can be difficult to express directly.
